Manoeuvre

Here are some manoeuvre routines

Reverse Parallel Park

Keep 1 metre from parked car, stop level with front of car.

1st ref point – when your back nearside window is passed the parked car, 1 turn of the steering wheel to the left.

2nd ref point – when rear offside door handle is in line with the Kerb Stone 1 turn to the right.

3rd ref point – when the nearside door mirror is at the end (next to the Kerb) of the car 1 turn to right.

4th ref point – when car is parallel with kerb 1 turn to the left to finish.

Nearside is next to the kerb, Offside is the side closes to the centre of the road.

Stopping on the right-hand side of the road and reversing in a straight line

Stopping on the right side of the road as always check your mirrors and signal right (if you need to stop and wait in the middle of the road as you would if you were turning right it is ok to do so) when it is safe to do so move over to the right-hand side of the road and stop somewhere safe, legal and convenient to other road uses.

Then when it is safe to do so reverse back approximately 2 car lengths, ALWAYS have a good look around for other cars and stop if they are near you or about to pass you, and as always stop for any Pedestrians.

Then do all your checks (remember observations are always from the pavement to the road) before moving off and always signal left (do not sit there with your signal on) signal just before you move off, and get on to the left-hand side of the road.

Driving into a parking bay

When you are driving into a parking bay on the right just think about it as if you are turning right in to .

Keep to the left side of the road and signal right, line your right-hand door mirror up with the first line of the bay you are going into (keep the car nice and slow) and turn the steering wheel all the way around to the right and just guide the car into the centre of the bay, if you need to adjust it you can reverse back and drive back in only once.

When you are driving into a bay on your left.

You will need to signal left but pull as far over to the right side of the road before you get to the bay you are parking in, then line up your left-hand door mirror with the first line of the bay you are driving into (keep the car nice and slow) and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and just guide the car into the centre of the bay, if you need to adjust it you can reverse back and drive back in only once.

Reverse Bay Parking

When you are reversing into a parking bay always keep as far from the bay as possible (without going over the white lines of any other bay) slowly drive passed the bay you wish to drive into, count three bay pass the one you are going to drive into and line your door mirror up to the far line (the 4th line from the bay), as you reverse back turn the steering wheel to full lock (1.5 turns left ot right) and slowly guild the car in between the lines.

Turn in the Road

1st As you go forward turn 1 ½ turns to the right, when the bottom of the driver’s door mirror is on the kerb stone 1 ½ turns to the left and STOP.

2nd In reverse, as you reverse turn 1 ½ turns to the left, and always look backwards as you are reversing. When the Kerb stone is half way along the rear offside window, 1 ½ turns to the right and STOP.

3rd As you go forward turn 1 ½ turns to the right then straighten up and park next to the kerb.
